The Story

  • Ambete Reliquary Male Figure Large, Gabon/ DRC Congo PROVENANCE
  • This fine old Ambete (or Mbete) power figure is made of quite hard wood, with a partially crusty surface from repeated offerings. The rectangular cavity in the back of the statue probably once contained Magic Amulets or pieces of bones.
  • The object most likely dates back to the first half of the 20th century.
  • Measurements:  43.5cm
  • Condition: Good
  • The object comes from a German collection (of the late Mr F. Tandinski, Cologne, Germany)
