The Story
- Ewe Aklama Ada Altar Fetish Figure, Ghana
- Adan Voodoo Altar Fetish
- Light-weighted wood with a patina of Kaolin.
- This “Aklama” fetish is a ritual object of the voodoo cult, used by the Ewe, who speak the Adangbe/Ada language from Ghana, and who live near the Togolese border.
- These Ade sculptures embody the diverse deities associated with hunting, also common to the Yoruba and to the Ewe.
- Regarding their use, these objects are found on specific altars, but we have already seen pictures illustrating them grouped in a basket and dressed with a piece of cloth, like the Vinavi of the Ewe.
- Measurements: 34×10×8 cm
- Condition: Fair
- Stand included
- Bibliography: Aklama, Helping spirits of the Ewe and Dangme People from the Study collection of Horst Antes.
