The Story

  • Bohemian/ Czech cast glass Tanfouk/ Talhakimt pendant circa 1930's 
  • 32" deerskin leather cord (chocolate brown or saddle tan color)
  • Pendant measures 2.25" X 1.5"
  • Tanfouks, also known as Talhakimt, are a traditional shape in Tuareg jewelry dating back centuries.
  • In West Africa, they were believed to have Amuletic properties; The circle symbolized female energy and the triangle represented male energy. The Tanfouk or Talhakimt represented the union of male and female and were considered a type of "Love Charm". 
  • Used as both necklaces and hair ornaments, these particular pieces were created in the glass factories of Czechoslovakia and traded in the Western Sahara in the early 20th Century.
